BAS Energy - Energy supplier switching up 14 percent.

January sees a 14% rise in energy switches

According to the latest figures from trade body Energy UK, around 400 000 customers switched energy supplier in January – a 14% increase. This appears to mark a continuation of the record- breaking switching trend observed in 2017, which saw 5.5 million customers change energy provider during the course of the year.

Commentators see the figures as promising – indicative of consumer awareness and pragmatism. As switching rates reach a ten-year high, the figures show the success of competitiveness within the market, with customers having more choice than ever when it comes to their energy contracts.

Although the statistics are encouraging for what they represent in terms of positive market health, commentators have further intoned that there is more to be done in terms of raising consumer awareness around the various switching options available.
